Thousands of years of Jewish struggles, longings and love for God find focus
and expression before this wall. The huge stones form part of the base of
the Temple Mount nearest to where Israel’s Temple once stood. They were cut
and positioned by an army of stone masons employed by King Solomon 3000
years ago.
Between the cracks are wedged innumerable tightly folded scraps of paper
each bearing a hand written prayer. Since this site was regained by Israel
in 1967, a constant stream of men and women have come here to worship and
pray openly and unembarrassed.
The Western Wall holds a strange and very powerful magnetic attraction for
Israelis and visitors alike. There is a sense of expectancy… One day HE will
come to rule and be recognized!
