A treadle sewing machine was the pride and joy of many a pioneer woman. It was used to clothe the family, sew up the drapes, spreads and covers that made a home complete. This sewing machine belonged to my wife’s grandmother. For years it stood at the entrance to my studio. I would gaze at the intricately veneered timber, the solid grace of it’s working parts…

Very slowly, the idea of a painting was born.
